Covid-19, police brutality, riots, statues coming down, Supreme Court decisions that may have a radical effect on us.
These are just some of the things that are occuring in our nation and culture right now. How should we respond to these things as Christians? It is certainly easy to get angry or fearful. I certainly have felt some of these emotions seeing the news and checking my social media. We are not to have a spirit of timidity and fear. But what is the context of this? It means we should not be timid or fearful about speaking the truth! What truth? All truth! But the beginning of all truth is the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Christ was crucified for sinners like you and me. He lived the perfect, sinless life. He obeyed and fulfilled the law completely on our behalf. He then died and rose again on our behalf and when we embrace Him by faith alone, we are then justified or counted righteous before Him. We are also new creatures. The old man is gone and the new has come. The whole message of the Bible is God’s redemptive plan for His people but ultimately for His own glory! The Bible tells us that God has concern for His own name and it will not be corrupted. Everything that is true and beautiful comes from God. We should not fear in proclaiming biblical truths. We should proclaim the gospel, proclaim the virtues that are found in the Bible, and not have fear in preaching these things to an ungodly culture.
What we are seeing is a decimation of western culture. A culture that was built on Judeo-Christian values. Western culture as we know it was launched from the Protestant reformation and its insistance on reforming all of life to the Word of God. It effects not just the church, but society. Our increasingly godless culture has no regard for history and especially no regard for the God of the Bible. We must call this out and speak the truth. It may cost us our social media pages, friends, and a host of other things. But God has promised to be there with us and for us. Be emboldened, dont be timid or fearful. God has not called us to that!
